Happy black dog day (one day late)!
For those who didn’t know, October 1st was National Black Dog Day. “Black Dog Syndrome” is a phenomenon in which, for whatever reason, black dogs are passed over for adoption in favor of lighter-colored animals. After reading a little on the topic, it also seems that black dogs (regardless of their breed) are more likely to be killed in shelters 😔
Over the years I’ve had a mix of black, brown, and white dogs, and have loved them all the same. When adopting a dog, I advise folks to prioritize personality over color. I just think personality/temperament is the glue that will bond you together. It’s the inner qualities that ultimately matter. That said, I pray folks considering adopting a dog will put first things first and look for the quality in a dog that goes deeper than color.
Happy black dog day! Happy hugs to you and your beloved canine companions 🐶❤️🐶❤️🐶❤️
