“God loves you”, the pastor said . . . as my mind wandered.
I can’t help but chuckle at all the years I sat in church and heard preachers tell me, “God loves you”, and to think how hard this simple truth was for me to understand. After all, how could a perfect and Holy God love me, with all my failures and faults?
Then one day, I had an aha moment, and it all made sense Continue reading “Does God Love Me?”

“Do what you love. Know your own bone, gnaw at it, bury it, unearth it still.” —Henry David Thoreau
Doing what we love! Isn’t that what we all dream to do?
My dogs have the good fortune to do what they love— they run and play, find their deer antler bones and toys, they chew on them, bury them, unearth them, and chew on them some more. They seem so content . . . I envy them at times.
The world seems to be falling apart, torn from the inside out by hate and violence and television and social networking brings it right to our door (and mind) on a daily basis!
But I’m also certain that all over the world acts of LOVE, GENEROSITY, and JOYFUL CELEBRATIONS (marriage, birth, and all sorts of wonderful accomplishments) continue to be displayed.
Some mornings I wake up and feel like I’m riding a roller coaster—up, down, happy, sad. Should I feel sorrow, or joy?

One sunny afternoon while taking photos of my pups, I was fortunate to catch this image of my tricolor Emma leaping over her brother. He happened to be in her path while she was chasing the ball. I couldn’t help but notice how enthusiastic and determined she was while we were playing. I could almost hear her shout—Look mommy I can leap, and twirl, and fly . . . and I’m bringing back the ball you threw so that we can do it all over again!— What was so beautiful was that while she was facing various obstacles and challenges— digging, chasing, jumping—you could almost see her sprout wings. With each new challenge during our play session she was learning something new! What a wonderful visual showing how obstacles can work for our good . . .
Looking back on my life, I see how the obstacles I faced were used by God to teach me valuable lessons. Facing fear taught me faith, sorrow taught me joy, waiting taught me patience, and hurt taught me to forgive and to love. Dear friends, the obstacles we face were never meant to ruin our lives; rather, to challenge us to new heights. I can imagine God smiling as we learn from the challenges we face and sprout our wings!
“Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.” —Booker T. Washington
“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” —Isaiah 40:31
